What is medical weight loss?

So, what is medical weight loss? Before discussing what it is, it probably makes sense to start with what it is not. Medical weight loss is not surgery or diet pills. It is physician-directed weight management based on medical scientific principles that target the root causes of obesity and weight gain to achieve and sustain a healthy weight in the long-term.

How medical weight loss differs from other programs

The tools that medical weight loss physicians use to help you manage your weight are very different from what you find with commercial programs. First, medical weight loss doctors use your metabolism and body composition (mainly fat percentage) as true indicators of weight loss progress. Second, they can prescribe safe, low-calorie diets that are specifically designed to help you lose weight while breaking the cycle of food addiction. And should you choose, your doctor can also prescribe an appetite suppressant for you.  Finally, medical weight loss doctors have the ability to view your weight loss and maintenance within the context of your total health profile. If you have a condition that requires medication that may be interfering with your weight loss efforts, your medical weight loss doctor can consult with your primary care physician to prescribe a safe, effective alternative to lift those barriers.

Why the Center for Medical Weight Loss?

Unlike commercial weight loss programs, medical weight loss is designed to take more than just the food you eat and activities you do into account. Only a medical doctor can truly understand how your unique health profile contributes to your weight loss challenges, but also how it can be used to help you achieve success. The doctor will study your medical history, prescriptions, hormonal imbalances, metabolic rate, and multiple other medical factors to design a weight loss program specifically for you.

Once you understand how medical weight loss works, you can feel confident that your CMWL Doctor is the most qualified physician to help you achieve your weight loss goals. CMWL Doctors have received the most in-depth, comprehensive medical weight loss training available. Not only do they understand the physical aspects of weight loss, but have been trained to address any behaviors holding you back from reaching your weight loss goals. This means you will have a high-skilled, supportive, and caring medical expert on your side, helping you to lose those initial pounds quickly and safely, and teaching you to keep them off for good.

Who Can Medical Weight Loss Benefit?

Medical weight loss is designed to help any individual with his or her specific weight loss goals, whether to lose 100 pounds or those last stubborn ten pounds. Everyone is different when it comes to weight loss, but medical weight loss can be used to treat everyone.

How the program works

Our belief is that because weight by its very nature is a medical issue, there is no better person to help people achieve their weight loss goals than a trained medical professional.

During the initial consultation, the CMWL team will spend some time getting to know you, your medical history and perform a body composition analysis. Once they obtain the information in regards to weight, Body Mass Index and resting metabolism they will recommend a program that will work for you and your lifestyle.  Dr. Randhawa has weekly, bi-weekly and monthly programs to meet individual weight loss needs.

At Dr. Randhawa's CMWL (Center for Medical Weight Loss) there are 3 basic phases to weight management. Within each phase are basic principles to maintaining optimal health: superior food choices, behavioral counseling, and (where appropriate) prescribed appetite suppressants or prescription medication adjustments.

The food component of the program consists of a highly nutritional low-calorie diet that can only be prescribed by a medical doctor combined with behavioral counseling and medical monitoring. These foods have been specifically developed to provide optimal nutrition (keeping your body healthy) as you lose weight rapidly under the care of a physician in the CMWL Network. And with behavioral counseling, you’ll start to learn that you really do have more control over your decisions than you may have believed.

Our Plans

After your initial consultation, your CMWL Doctor may prescribe one of the following plans and personalize it to your specific needs and preferences:

 Accelerated or Accelerated Plus

The Accelerated plan includes six weeks of one-on-one visits with your CMWL Doctor, simple medical tests to monitor your weight loss progress, and a high-nutrition calorie-controlled food plan. Accelerated Plus also includes vitamin regulation.

 LCD or Modified LCD

The Low Calorie Diet (LCD) is a high-nutrition calorie-controlled plan your doctor will prescribe for you and monitor closely. The Modified LCD is the same plan, but adjusted to include a calorie-specific dinner that may include your favorite foods

 Appetite Suppressant

Jumpstart your CMWL weight loss plan with an appetite suppressant prescribed and monitored by your CMWL Doctor.
